At South Bank Colleges, we are always proud to highlight the achievements of our students, and this month we are delighted to share the success of Dexter, one of our T-Level students, who recently completed a 20-day placement with leading engineering and infrastructure company Keltbray.

This placement offered Dexter a unique and well-rounded insight into the construction industry, with the opportunity to experience different areas of the business including Engineering, Project Management and Pre-Construction.

In his first week, Dexter was based with the Engineering team at Wentworth. He gained hands-on experience with concept design drawings, developed skills using AutoCAD and Trimble software, and built a strong foundation in structural engineering.

For weeks two and three, Dexter joined the project teams at 1 Victoria Street, where he experienced the fast-paced environment of a live construction site. Working closely with both Keltbray and Mace, he developed an understanding of essential health and safety procedures, and learned how demolition work is carefully planned to minimise environmental impacts such as dust, noise and vehicle pollution. He also took part in Daily Activity Briefings (DABs), giving him insight into how collaboration between teams supports safe and effective project delivery.

In his final week, Dexter worked alongside the Pre-Construction team. He learned to use Bluebeam software, helping to calculate project budgets and prepare costings for future works — giving him a glimpse into the financial and planning side of the industry.

Throughout the placement, Dexter showed real curiosity, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. The experience has inspired him to consider Project Management as a potential career path — a fantastic outcome from such a comprehensive placement.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Helen Trinh and the wider Keltbray team, including Steve Pallister, Dean Ruane, Joseph O'Connor, Alexandra Cooper and the teams at 1 Victoria Street and Wentworth, for offering such a valuable and supportive opportunity.

This kind of partnership exemplifies how industry and education can work together to develop future talent and bring T-Levels to life. We look forward to seeing where Dexter’s journey takes him next.
