Students at London South Bank Technical College have achieved a major milestone in this year’s MEI Further Education Maths Challenge, securing 1st place in the highest-level category at the Regional Final.

The journey began with the College Round at Nine Elms, where nine students were selected to represent LSBTC across three categories: Funkies, Einstein and Go Further. Each category challenges learners to demonstrate problem-solving skills, logical reasoning, teamwork and the ability to think clearly under pressure.

Following their success internally, the team progressed to the Regional Final hosted at Croydon College, where nine colleges competed for top honours. With a high standard across the board and strong competition throughout the day, the atmosphere was focused and intense.

In an outstanding result, LSBTC secured 1st place in the most advanced category, Go Further.

Achieving victory in the highest-level category is a remarkable accomplishment, particularly as this is the first time the college has entered the competition. It marks a historic moment for the Maths department and sets a powerful benchmark for future cohorts.

All nine students represented the college with professionalism, confidence and determination. Beyond technical mathematical ability, they demonstrated exceptional teamwork and resilience, qualities that are central to both academic and future career success.

The team will now advance to the National Final on 21 April at Solihull College & University Centre, where they will compete against the top-performing colleges from across the country.

This achievement reflects not only the dedication and ambition of the students, but also the commitment and preparation provided by the Maths team in supporting them throughout the competition.
