Our minimum entry criteria can be updated at any time, up to and including enrolment. All course offers depend on a successful interview and, where needed, the completion of an initial and diagnostic assessment. Some courses also have extra entry requirements or require a specialist pre-entry test — these are listed on the relevant course page. In addition to the general criteria below, some courses may ask for relevant work experience.

Please note: Some courses will be taught at our new state-of-the-art campus in Nine Elms, while others will be delivered at Lambeth College (Clapham and Brixton campuses). Please check the course page for full details.

  • A Level 3 vocational qualification.
  • A Level 2 English qualification.
Level 3
  • 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4, including English Language.
  • Or a Level 2 vocational qualification and a Level 2 English qualification.
Level 2
  • 2 GCSEs at grades A*-D or 9-3, including English Language.
  • Or a Level 1 vocational qualification and a Level 1 English qualification.
Level 1
  • Entry Level 3 English qualification.
Entry Level
  • No formal entry requirements.

Apprenticeship programmes will be delivered at our new London South Bank Technical College.

Apprenticeship LevelEntry Criteria
Level 4/5 - Higher Apprenticeship
  • A Level 3 qualification (equivalent to two A Levels) or an Advanced Apprenticeship.
  • GCSE English and maths at grades A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent, such as Functional Skills Level 2).
  • Be working a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • Job role must match the apprenticeship framework or standard.
Level 3 - Advanced Apprenticeship
  • 4 GCSEs at grades A*-C or 9-4, or a Level 2 vocational qualification, or an Intermediate Apprenticeship.
  • Be working a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • Job role must match the apprenticeship framework or standard.
Level 2 - Intermediate Apprenticeship
  • 3 GCSEs at grade D or 3 and above, or a Level 1 vocational qualification, or a traineeship.
  • Be working a minimum of 30 hours per week.
  • Job role must match the apprenticeship framework or standard.

16–19 Year Olds – GCSE Maths and English

If you are aged 16 to 19, the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) requires that students who have not achieved a grade 4 or higher in GCSE maths and/or English must continue studying these subjects as part of their study programme. If you have not achieved grade 4 or above, relevant maths and/or English courses will be automatically added to your timetable.
