South Bank Colleges students recorded 529 successful Level 3 outcomes this summer — 90.7% of all confirmed results — across vocational, creative, technical and access qualifications.

Behind that number are dental technicians, electricians, biomedical scientists, animators, performers, engineers and finance analysts, all of whom spent two years learning a craft properly. Here's some of what they achieved.

T Levels: every student who completed their placement achieved the qualification

T Levels are demanding by design. Alongside the classroom work, students complete a substantial industry placement with a real employer, doing real work to real deadlines — and the qualification isn't awarded without it.

All 29 of our second-year students who completed their industry placement went on to achieve a full T Level. More than that: 24 of the 29 achieved Merit or above, including six Distinctions and one Distinction*.

That's an exceptional grade profile for a qualification this new and this rigorous, and it says something about what happens when a college's teaching and its employer partnerships pull in the same direction.

Creative students post a 94% pass rate

Our UAL creative and media provision recorded 126 passes from 134 results — 94.0%. Seventy-five of those students achieved a Merit or a Distinction, which is more than half of everyone who sat the qualification and close to three in five of the successful ones.

Three extended diploma cohorts came through with no fails at all:

• Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication.
• Creative Media Production and Technology.
• Performing and Production Arts.

For students weighing up whether a creative course can be as substantial as an academic one, those are the numbers to look at.

A clean sweep in Electrical Installation

Every one of the 12 Advanced Technical Diploma in Electrical Installation certifications was a pass, and nine of the twelve were at Merit or Distinction. A small cohort, and a perfect one — twelve students who can now walk onto a site with the qualification employers actually ask for.

Six BTEC cohorts with 100% pass rates

Ninety-four students across six BTEC course groups saw every single member of their cohort pass:

Biomedical Science deserves a particular mention: all 15 students passed, and every one achieved a grade profile of MPP or higher.

Strength across the board

Across the wider college, BTEC students recorded 195 passes from 211 confirmed results (92.4%) and NCFE students 90 passes from 96 (93.8%). Our Access to HE students — many of them adults returning to education alongside jobs and families — achieved 77 passes from 91 confirmed results, with Medicine and Health, and Human Sciences, among the strongest course groups.

And a nod to the year below: our first-year Early Years T Level students achieved six core component passes from six, every grade between A and C. A good sign of what's coming next summer.
