Students from South Bank Colleges’ Inclusive Learning programmes have been exploring career opportunities, developing employability skills and celebrating their achievements through a series of careers-focused activities.

A programme of workshops and events has helped Inclusive Learning students discover the wide range of opportunities available after college, while building the practical skills and confidence needed to take their next steps.

One of the sessions introduced students to careers within theatre and the creative industries through a Jobs in Theatre Workshop delivered by Omnibus Theatre.

Students learned that working in theatre can involve much more than performing on stage. The workshop introduced a variety of creative and supporting roles across the industry, helping students understand the different pathways available and consider how their own interests and abilities could lead towards future careers.

By hearing about opportunities both on and off stage, students were encouraged to think more broadly about the creative sector and the range of accessible roles it can offer.

Alongside exploring different industries, students also received practical support to prepare for employment.

A CV and Career Skills Workshop delivered by Prospero Teaching gave students guidance on creating CVs, recognising their strengths and developing important employability skills.

The session explored workplace expectations and communication skills, as well as ways students can present their abilities and experiences positively to future employers. Activities were designed to help students become more confident and better prepared for entering the world of work.

Students were also able to investigate a wider range of options at the Inclusive Learning Careers Fair.

The event brought together employers, training providers and support organisations, giving students the opportunity to speak directly with representatives and learn about employment, education and training pathways.

Interactive activities helped create a welcoming environment in which students could ask questions, explore different possibilities and learn more about the support available to help them progress.

The programme culminated in a Career Champions Celebration, recognising the achievements and contributions of students who have taken an active role in careers activities within the college.

The celebration gave students an opportunity to reflect on their experiences, recognise their successes and celebrate the positive contribution they have made to the wider college community.

Together, the activities demonstrated the importance of careers education that is practical, inclusive and tailored to individual students.

By combining real-world career insights with employability skills and opportunities to meet external organisations, South Bank Colleges is helping Inclusive Learning students gain the confidence, knowledge and experience they need to make informed decisions about their futures.
