South Bank Colleges is proud to celebrate its growing partnership with one of London’s most iconic institutions, Brown’s Hotel. What began as a promising opportunity has blossomed into a strong partnership that continues to offer students invaluable real-world experience in the heart of Mayfair.
Through this partnership, students have taken part in work experience placements, where they have had the chance to engage with high standards of hospitality and service. These opportunities have not only allowed students to build confidence and practical skills but also to form strong industry connections. We are especially proud to share that one of our students has recently secured a part-time role at Brown’s Hotel, a testament to their dedication and the welcoming support of the hotel’s team.
Our Curriculum Head, Sage Khan and the Employment Engagement Manager, Gina Mensah, have been instrumental in fostering this collaboration. With a clear vision and commitment to student development both have ensured that the experience is enriching and relevant to the college’s curriculum. Speaking of the partnership, Sage commented, “This relationship with Brown’s Hotel allows our learners to step into a world-class environment. It is inspiring to see their progress and the real career pathways that emerge from these experiences.”
Brown’s Hotel itself is steeped in history and elegance. Founded in 1837, it holds the distinction of being London’s first hotel. It has welcomed royalty, presidents and literary greats through its doors. Notably, the hotel is linked to one of the world’s most significant inventions, it was from Brown’s Hotel that Alexander Graham Bell made the first telephone call in Britain.
The literary connection to Rudyard Kipling adds yet another layer of charm. Kipling, the author of The Jungle Book, stayed at Brown’s Hotel, and it is believed that he penned parts of the beloved story while in residence. This remarkable heritage provides an inspiring backdrop for our students, who walk the same halls as figures who shaped history and culture.
This partnership truly represents the best of what education and industry can achieve together. As the relationship goes from strength to strength, we look forward to seeing more students flourish with the support of Brown’s Hotel, gaining both experience and inspiration in equal measure.
