Students at Lambeth College’s Clapham Common campus and London South Bank Technical College’s Nine Elms campus came together today to celebrate International Women’s Day 2026 with a lively networking and speaker event designed to inspire the next generation of women.
The event brought together female students with a range of guest speakers from external organisations, businesses, and the college’s own staff community, creating a welcoming space for conversation, advice, and shared experiences. Rather than a traditional lecture format, the day was structured as an informal networking fair, allowing students to speak directly with women working across different industries and roles.
Across both campuses, speakers shared personal stories about their careers, the challenges they had overcome, and the opportunities available for young women entering today’s workforce. Students were able to ask questions, discuss ambitions, and hear first-hand how determination, confidence, and support networks can shape successful careers.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give To Gain,” focuses on the power of generosity, collaboration, and mentorship in creating opportunities for women and girls. The theme highlights a simple but powerful idea: when knowledge, encouragement, and support are shared, everyone benefits.
The networking sessions reflected that spirit perfectly. Guest speakers gave their time and experience, offering guidance on topics ranging from career pathways and workplace confidence to overcoming barriers and finding supportive professional networks. In return, students gained valuable insight, encouragement, and inspiration as they consider their own futures.
International Women’s Day has been celebrated for more than a century, recognising the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women while continuing the global call for gender equality. Events like today’s fair demonstrate how these ideas translate into practical support for students, helping them see the many paths open to them.
Throughout the day, conversations flowed between students and speakers, with many discussions continuing well beyond the scheduled sessions. For many students, meeting women already working in their chosen fields offered a powerful reminder that their ambitions are achievable.
By bringing together students, staff, and professionals from outside the college, the event embodied the Give To Gain message. By sharing experiences, knowledge, and encouragement, the speakers helped create new possibilities for the students they met.
As International Women’s Day reminds us, progress toward equality happens when people support one another. Today’s event showed that when women give their time, insight, and encouragement, the next generation gains confidence, opportunity, and inspiration.
