South Bank Colleges kicked off the new academic year with a lively Freshers Fair, held over lunchtime at both London South Bank Technical College (Nine Elms Campus) and Lambeth College (Clapham Campus). The events brought together fun activities, community organisations, and essential support services to help students settle in, make connections, and discover opportunities.

Students were greeted with a carnival-like atmosphere, including a free candy floss machine, ice-cold slush puppy drinks, and even a boxing punch machine where they could test their speed and strength. It was the perfect way to mix fun with the start of term buzz.

Alongside the entertainment, there were plenty of stands offering advice, guidance, and inspiration:

  • Student Union – introducing students to the many ways they can get involved, have their voices heard, and shape college life.

  • Careers Team (WEX) – on hand to offer expert advice on work placements, employability skills, and planning for the future.

  • Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust – sharing information about their community nursing services for adults and young people with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia.

  • Local Blood Bank – raising awareness about the importance of blood donation and how students can help save lives.

  • YEES: Youth Engagement and Educational Support – highlighting their workshops and training designed to build emotional intelligence and transform young people’s lives.

  • Confidential advice and safe sex services – ensuring students know where to turn for trusted guidance and health support.

  • London South Bank University (LSBU) – showcasing the exciting range of higher education opportunities that students can progress to after their time at South Bank Colleges.

The Freshers Fair was not only about freebies and fun, but also about connecting students with the wide network of support, guidance, and opportunities available to them both inside and outside the college.

By combining student services, community organisations, and a few sweet treats, the event set a positive tone for the year ahead. Judging by the smiles, laughter, and long queues at the stands, it was a resounding success.

South Bank Colleges is proud to welcome every student to the start of their journey and to help them thrive — not just academically, but personally too.
